Aug 26, 2017: Green Heron

A strike and a miss, this juvenile Green Heron attempts a quick meal. (Wolf. Oesterreich, 8/25/17)

Aug 25, 2017: Giant Mayfly

This was the first Giant Mayfly that I've seen at the Park.  Along the Mississippi River Valley in the early summer, they can be so numerous that roads and bridges have to be closed until cleared. (Wolf. Oesterreich, 6/11/2017)

Aug 24, 2017: The Soft and the Sharp

Thistles are blooming in the park's prairie areas. (Kevin Kane, 8/19/17)

Aug 21, 2017: Yellow-billed Cuckoo

Yellow-billed Cuckoos are becoming less common, although still more numerous than the Black-billed Cuckoo.  More often heard (kuk-kuk-kuk) than seen, I was fortunate to find this one at the bluff. (Wolf. Oesterreich, 6/25/18)
