July 19, 2021: Chickweed Geometer

Chickweed Geometers (Haematopis grataria) are a common moth of the Park, although not this year.  Host plants include chickweed, clover, knotweed, and smartweed.  This male was found near the south end of the Harrison Rd spur. (Wolf. Oesterreich, 7/20/21)

Sep 9, 2019: 2019 Great Ames Adventure Race

The annual Great Ames Adventure Race occurred on Sunday morning (8th) under a cloudy sky and cool temperatures.  The race consists of three legs: 2.5 mile kayak-canoe event (at the Park), 15 mile biking event (north of Ames, mostly county roads), and a 5K running event (at the Park). Sep 12, 2017: 2017 Great Ames Adventure Race (GAAR)

At least 56 teams participated this year in the Great Ames Adventure Race (GAAR).  Leg 1 consists of 2.7 mile kayak-canoe race on Ada Hayden Heritage Park's main lakes; Leg 2 is a 15 mile race on Story County roads (starting & finishing at the Park); and Leg 3 is a 5K run along the Park's trails.
