One to two Tundra Swans (swan on right) have been found among the
Trumpeter Swans since Jan 2. They are smaller (length of 52" vs 60"
& wing spread of 66" vs 80"), have shorter necks (more goose-like)
and a more rounded head, with eyes that appear to be more isolated from
the black bill. Most will have a yellow spot of variable size in front
of the eye (on the bill). There is a hint of a spot on this bill.
Tundra Swans are not recorded every year at the Park. Hundreds of them
can be seen along the Mississippi River during the Winter months. (Wolf. Oesterreich, 1/2/19)
