Painted Ladies have exploded across the landscape.
Although they are one of more common species found at the Park, I observed
hundreds to thousands this Sunday in southern Story County and northern Polk
County. Apparently their caterpillars, know as "Thistle
Caterpillars" are causing problems in soybean fields. This Painted
lady has landed on a Cup Plant. (Wolf. Oesterreich, 7/30/19)
