Dec 1, 2021: Wolf's November 2021 Wildlife Report

Greater White-fronted Geese are normally seen in migration (Spring & Fall), but one individual has been present since early Spring.  When first found, I suspected that the goose was injured.  The goose would be found hidden away at ponds at the Park.  Over time, the goose was able to fly, but only for short distances.  Now the goose is capable of flying off with Canada Geese out to nearby fields to feed.  However, I wonder if the goose is capable of a sustained long-distance flight.  We'll keep watch to see if the goose will head south or try to survive the Winter here. (Wolf Oesterreich, 11/23/21)

A total of 64 avian species (plus 1 hybrid) was recorded this month, ranking this month as the 8th highest November (tied with November 2009) among 24 years of records.  November 1999 with only 40 species remains as the lowest November, while Novembers 2010 and 2014, with 67 species, have the highest total.  This total is 38 species less than last month and 8 less than November 2020.

Listed below, following the species’ names, are the date(s) of sighting(s), plus the occasional miscellaneous information regarding numbers, gender (=male, =female), age (im=immature, ju=juvenile, bp=breeding plumage, ad=adult, nb=non-breeding, f=fawn), color phase (b=blue, w=white), and location (BY=back yard, FY=front yard).  The order follows the 62nd Supplement (2021) to the American Ornithologists’ Union Check-list of North American Birds and the 21st Supplement to the 7th Edition (1998).

There are no records for the 5th through the 13th (Texas) and I didn't ride from the 14th through the 19th (illness).
