Two common anglewings (Family Nymphalidae) found at the Park
are the Eastern Comma (Polygonia comma) and Question Mark (Polygonia
interrogationis). When the wings are folded up it is easy to
differentiate the two species: the Eastern Comma has a white "comma"
on the hindwing, while the Question Mark, in addition to the white
"comma", also has a white "dot". When the wings are
unfolded they appear similar. The best way to tell the difference is to
look at the 3 dark spots on the forewing: the Question Mark (right) has a
horizontal dark bar above the 3 spots, while the Eastern Comma (left) does not. (Wolf. Oesterreich, 10/18/18)
