Dec 29, 2018: Calm Before the Rain

South shore of the south lake right before the rain let loose hard and chased the fog and the warm weather walkers from the trail. (Kevin Kane, 12/27/18)

Dec 28, 2018: Barred Owl

This Barred Owl is going to eat crow, an American Crow that is.  I was surprised to see the owl clutching the crow.  Mammals comprise the majority of their food, but they have been known to also take birds (up to the size of a grouse), amphibians, reptiles, and invertebrates. Dec 27, 2018: New Park Interpretive Signage

The Friends of Ada Hayden Heritage Park have donated funding for new interpretive signage for the park.  In cooperation with the City of Ames, the new signs have begun to appear near key areas along the trail system.  Check them out the next time you visit! (Kevin Kane, 12/27/18)

Dec 26, 2018: All is Calm

Dec 25, 2018: Ross's Goose

A lone Ross's Goose (white morph) is flanked by single Cackling Geese, and surrounded by Canada Geese.  The Cackling Geese, like the Ross's, have short bills as compared to the Canada's.
