Sedge Wrens migrated southward and arrived at the Park on the 13th, mostly along the lower flats of the Upland Trail.  One to three can be heard singing. (Wolf. Oesterreich, 7/25/18)

July 25, 2018: Western Spiny Softshell

While Erv K. and I were walking past the spillway we came upon this young Western Spiny Softshell (Apalone spinifera hartwegi).  Females can have a carapace length of 17 inches, while males are only half that length.  To keep from being run over, the turtle was placed at the water's edge.
