Sep 29, 2018: Perched Heron

While photographing a Great Blue Heron take off from, and then circle around the wetland, I was taken by surprise as it landed in the top of a nearby tree - a sight I had not seen before. (Kevin Kane, 9/22/18)

Sep 23, 2018: Osprey

An Osprey carries off its catch.  Monday (17th) was a great night for Osprey migration, with over 30 birds being observed.  The most seen at one time over the south lake was 12 individuals, with 8 to 9 the norm.  Also migrating that early evening were 300+ Franklin's Gulls, a handful of Ring-billed Gulls and Caspian Terns, 33 Double-crested Cormorants, 4 Great Egrets, 100+ Turkey Vultures, 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk, and 1 Bald Eagle; all seen within a 30-minute span.  (The following day, I only spotted 1 Osprey.)
