At Jensen Pond, two Snapping Turtles appeared to be in
conflict. They swirled around each other, with one trying to climb on top of
the other. After a few minutes they stopped, as if to
"rest". Then they started again. This routine went on for
a while and probably continued after I left the area. (Wolf. Oesterreich, 8/30/21)
At this time of year the Dickcissels have become mostly
silent. I spotted this female (left) carrying food. I watched her
land on a Compass Plant and thought that she would drop down to a nest.
Instead, junior (right) popped up and landed on another branch of the Compass
Plant. (Wolf. Oesterreich, 8/9/21)
