July 27, 2018: Sedge Wren
Sedge Wrens migrated southward and arrived at the Park on
the 13th, mostly along the lower flats of the Upland Trail. One to three
can be heard singing. (Wolf. Oesterreich, 7/25/18)
July 25, 2018: Western Spiny Softshell
While Erv K. and I were walking past the spillway we came
upon this young Western Spiny Softshell (Apalone spinifera hartwegi).
Females can have a carapace length of 17 inches, while males are only half that
length. To keep from being run over, the turtle was placed at the water's
edge. (Wolf. Oesterreich, 7/19/18)
