March 29, 2021: Mourning Cloak
The first butterfly of the season was this Mourning Cloak, found along the bluff spur's west arm. This worn individual probably over-wintered as an adult. (Wolf. Oesterreich, 3/29/21)

Two pairs of Buffleheads were found on Pond J. Originally on the south lake, they spent a lot of time diving and swimming. (Wolf. Oesterreich, 3/28/21)

March 25, 2021: Update - Great Horned Owls
An update from our previous Great Horned Owl post... As far as I know, Aaron Eckley was the first to confirm the hatching, with a video of the 2 owlets on the 22nd. The first time I passed by the nesting snag on the 23rd, the female was on the nest. Later I spotted an owl flying through the trees and when I returned, the female had left, leaving the 2 owlets. She perched nearby as American Crows harassed her. (Wolf. Oesterreich, 3/23/2021)
