A Barn Swallow
"parked" on a sign greeted the 12 participants in this morning's bird
walk, led by Wolf. After a brief introduction and the handing out of the
"fresh-off-the-press" Park checklists (of all 273 species), the group
headed over to the Upland Trail. An Osprey hunting over the north lake
was a delight. At Jensen Pond, we observed Wood Ducks, a Green Heron, and
the 2 adult Red-headed Woodpeckers. We scoped out the Pond D area and
then made our way to the NW corner. Several butterflies and plants along
the way were identified. A total of 31 avian species were identified on
this walk. (Wolf. Oesterreich, 8/12/17)
