The last interpretive talk of the
season, "The Odonates of Ada Hayden Heritage Park", was presented by
Erv Klaas and Wolf Oesterreich to 9 participants. Erv (in photograph)
started off by talking about damselflies and dragonflies from prehistoric times
(fossils) to today. He also discussed reproductive strategies and
differences between the two types. Photographs of some of the common
species were shown, as well as field guides that we use. Afterwards, Wolf
led the group on a short walk along the north shore. At least 8 species
were discovered, with 2♂ and 1♀ American Rubyspots being the best find. (Wolf. Oesterreich, 8/16/17)
