Dec 28, 2017: New Record for Swan Sightings
A new record high of 108-109
Trumpeter Swans was found on the morning of the 27th. This photo shows
all of them, including the 25 immatures. They started to head out to feed
in small groups at 11:24. (Wolf. Oesterreich, 12/27/17)
Dec 27, 2017: Deer Spotting

Dec 26, 2017: Trumpeter Swan Tracker
Tracking Trumpeter Swans. https://www.nrem.iastate.edu/track-trumpeter .
The image above shows a closeup of Swan #1706's range over AHHP. Go to the site to check out the entire range for this and other tracked swans in the area.
Go to the main page and scroll down, click on "Swan #1706". We tagged this individual in NE Boone County at a private wetland and it is now spending a lot of time at Ada Hayden Park. --Steve Dinsmore.
Dec 25, 2017: Sunrise on the South Lake
Just prior to sunrise, the
bluff area is illuminated by the first rays (above). Three-fourths of the south
lake is covered by a thin layer of ice. Then, minutes after sunrise, the
trees are "bleached" by the rays (below). (Wolf. Oesterreich, 12/20/17)
